To enhance its beautiful estate, the Trust sought bespoke external signage that would reflects its unique vision and rich history.
The Dartington Hall Trust, founded by Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst in 1925, is a pioneering charity dedicated to advancing the arts, social justice, and sustainability.
To support this mission, we set out to create new entrance, directional, and location signs. The challenge was to ensure they blended seamlessly with the estate’s natural surroundings while maintaining a creative and contemporary design aesthetic.
To achieve this, we worked closely with Dan Coxon, the Marketing and Communications Manager of Dartington Hall Trust. Our goal was to design signage that was both visually appealing and durable enough to withstand the elements. Additionally, the Trust required a solution that honored the estate’s legacy of art and innovation while complementing its more traditional values.
Recognising the Trust’s preference to move away from plastic materials offered by alternative suppliers, we proposed our extensive range of durable, sustainable options. This commitment to quality and environmental responsibility made us the ideal partner for the project.
To address the client’s needs, our team first engaged in a thorough consultation with the Dartington Hall Trust. Through this process, we gained a deep understanding of their brand, vision, and the quirks and challenges of the estate’s environment.
As a result, we proposed a selection of high-quality materials. These included timber, stone, stainless steel, and glass. Not only did these materials ensure longevity, but they also harmonised with the Devon countryside and the estate’s distinctive landscaping.
Furthermore, our material choices aligned with the Trust’s sustainability goals, reinforcing their commitment (and ours) to environmental responsibility.
During the design phase we introduced clean lines and contemporary styling, reflecting the Trust’s innovative spirit, and mirroring aspects of the estate’s buildings and architectural features. The engineering and manufacturing processes were meticulously planned and managed, focusing on precision and durability. Using advanced production techniques, we created bespoke signage tailored to the Trust’s exact specifications. We ensured that each piece was crafted with care and attention to detail. Sustainability was prioritised in the final choice of materials, complementing the estate’s natural surroundings. This enabled the project to align with the Trust’s environmental values while providing a long-lasting quality signage suite.
The outcome of the project has successfully delivered a stunning collection of contemporary signs that not only enhance the estate’s environment but also provide clear and effective navigation for visitors.
